How Claude 3 stacks up to Gemini & GPT-4
All of the LLMs have entered the arena now — or at least the big ones have, and they’re all trying to one-up each other. It's been a few weeks since Claude 3 was released, giving early adopters a chance to flex its capabilities. And yes, it’s like, really good. But then again, so are Gemini and GPT-4.
At this point, the competitive landscape is fairly clear cut, but each contender comes with its own bag of tricks and weaknesses. Here’s a quick rundown of how Claude 3 stacks up:
Overall performance: Claude 3 is pretty much on par with GPT-4. In some tasks, it outperforms GPT-4, while in others, it falls a bit short. But generally speaking, they're neck and neck.
Language understanding & accuracy: Anthropic has published benchmarks showing that Claude 3 has a slight edge over GPT-4 and Gemini when it comes to language understanding and accuracy. So in those specific areas, Claude 3 seems to have a competitive advantage.
Strengths: Claude 3 has some special areas in which it arguably performs better than the competitors. Users have found it excels at things like translating rare languages, understanding complex topics like quantum physics at a really high level, creative writing without the cliches, and learning new concepts comprehensively efficiently.
Weaknesses: There are areas where GPT-4 outperforms Claude 3, like common sense reasoning scenarios and technical tasks like writing formulas. While it's a solid performer, there's still room for refinement.

Social News
🚀 Reddit's IPO is a hit. Shares soared at launch, closing at $50.44 — 48% above its IPO price. This brought its fully diluted market capitalization to $9.5 billion, close to where the company was last valued privately at $10 billion in 2021. It's a green light for brands eyeing Reddit as a viable channel to reach new markets, but it’s a big question as to how the IPO will change the nature of Reddit now that it has Wall Street to answer to.
🧵 Threads enters the fediverse. After teasing interoperability since first launching last year, it’s official: Threads users can now choose to share posts to other ActivityPub-compliant servers (broadly known as the fediverse). Here’s what it looks like when you enable it:
This beta integration (currently only available in a few countries) means that users will be able to cross-post and view likes from other federated platforms like Mastodon, giving more freedom and choice in the communities they want to join. Every fediverse server can set its own community standards and content moderation policies — rather than being controlled by one entity the way Meta platforms are now.
“One way to think about the fediverse is to compare it to email. You can send an email from a Gmail account to a Yahoo account, for example, because those services support the same protocols. Similarly, in the fediverse you can connect with people who use different social networking services that are built on the same protocol, removing the silos that confine people and their followers to any single platform. But unlike email, your fediverse conversations and profile are public and can be shared across servers.”

🌟 Doubling down on engagement features. Two other fresh updates on Threads this week include a new GIF-searching capability for desktop and a new “Trending Now” feature to surface hot topics. Here’s what it looks like:
🕵🏼♀️ Is X actually paying creators what it says it is? X’s creator monetization tactics are under a microscope again after an article from the Wall Street Journal looked at the platform’s rev-sharing scheme and creator payouts. X claims it paid creators $45 million in 7 months — something Twitter apparently never did. But creators say the platform's rules and payments are unclear and inconsistent, making the whole revenue share promise frustrating. Others who’ve looked into it agree that the difference between what X says vs. what creators actually experience is getting harder to ignore.
⏭ YouTube tests AI skip ahead. The new feature uses AI to skip ahead to the most engaging segments in videos, giving hungry viewers (with zero attention spans) a more efficient way to consume content at warp speed.
👻 Now, even AR filters can be ads. Snapchat is introducing sponsored AR filters as a new advertising option for brands wanting to reach users with the notorious filter format:
#️⃣ Better hashtags on Instagram. IG is out with a new update to make it easier to discover content via hashtags. Now, when you tap on a hashtag, you’ll be directed to broader search results, including profiles, instead of just a “Top Posts” feed.
